Jacksonville, Fla. – The Stetson women's tennis team saw its 2021 season come to an end in a 4-0 loss to North Florida at the UNF Tennis Complex Friday in the opening round of the ASUN Tennis Championship.
The Hatters finish the season with a 6-10 record overall. UNF improved to 15-7 and advances to the ASUN Semifinal where they Ospreys will host the winner of the match between FGCU and Kennesaw State. The ASUN Semifinals and Finals will be played on the UNF campus.
Stetson fell behind early, dropping the doubles point 2-1. The duo of
Katie Kubicz and
Elodie Foster took a 6-3 victory on court No. 2 against Valentina Mariotto and Catherine Gulihur, but lost the point on the No. 3 court when Stetson's
Danel Ashirova and
Noa Cohen dropped a hard-fought match 7-5.
Once singles play began, the Ospreys took straight set wins on courts two, six and four to secure the victory. Play on courts one, three and five was left unfinished once the match was settled. All three of those contests appeared headed to a third set when the match ended.
