Gainesville, Fla. – For the third time this year, Stetson jumped out to an early lead against Florida only to see the Gators take advantage of opportunities through the middle innings to defeat the visiting Hatters, this time by a final score of 9-6
Stetson's pitchers combined to allow seven walks in the game to go with a balk while the Florida hitters banged out 12 hits, including a season-high four doubles.
Stetson got home runs in the first inning and in the ninth inning from both
Andrew MacNeil and
Hernen Sardinas and the Hatters (23-18) had plenty of chances to score more runs in between. But, five of the nine runners Stetson left on base were left in scoring position. Florida (31-13) left 10 runners on base in the game, including five in scoring position as well. Both teams finished the night with 12 hits.
Sterlin Thompson led Florida, picking up his second three-hit game against the Hatters this year. Sardinas led Stetson with three hits and, with his two homers, became the first visiting player with three home runs at the new Florida Ballpark.
The highlight on the mound for the Hatters was once again freshman
Austin Amaral, who held the Gators to just one run on four hits over 3.1 innings of work. The only run he allowed was the solo homer in the ninth inning that was just out of the reach of
Eric Foggo.
The Hatters return to action this weekend with the final ASUN series of the year at North Florida. Stetson and the Ospreys enter play tied for second in the South Division and will be playing for the right to host an ASUN Divisional Play-In Series. Friday's game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
Stetson will get one more chance at the Gators next Tuesday night in DeLand. That game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.

Hatters Notes
- The two home runs in the first inning for Stetson marked just the second time this year the Hatters have hit two homers in an inning. The other time was on April 17 when Sardinas and Brandon Hylton hit back-to-back homers against North Florida.
- The duo also both homered in the ninth inning.
- The four home runs in the game were the most in a game for the Hatters since May 6, 2017, when Stetson hit four home runs in a 17-5 victory over Jacksonville.
- It was the first time for the Hatters to have two players homer twice in the same game since Jeremy Cruz and Justin Bass both hit two homers against Gardner-Webb on March 14, 2008.
- The eight home runs Stetson has hit against Florida this year are the most against any opponent.
