MacNeil Academic All-District

Baseball Ricky Hazel, Associate AD

Andrew MacNeil Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

For the second straight year, Stetson University outfielder Andrew MacNeil has been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America with his selection to the 2021 Division I Academic All-District Team for District IV.

A Gainesville, Fla., native, MacNeil received his Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology in 2020 and spent the 2021 academic working toward an MBA. He will enroll in medical school at the University of Florida this fall. MacNeil achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA during his time at Stetson, both as an undergraduate and graduate student.

MacNeil will now be a candidate for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced in late July. He is just the second baseball student-athlete from Stetson ever recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-District player, joining with Christ Westervelt, who was a three-time Academic All-District pick from 2002-04.

Westervelt is the only baseball player from Stetson to ever earn Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA, doing so twice – in 2002 and again in 2004.

CoSIDA District IV is arguably the most competitive District in CoSIDA, covering all Division I programs from Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina.

MacNeil, who was a second team All-ASUN selection this spring, posted a career-best .310 batting average during the 2021 campaign while leading the Hatters, and ranking among the NCAA leaders, with 61 runs scored. MacNeil had 27 extra-base hits this spring with 16 doubles, four triples and seven home runs, and he drove in 33 runs. He finished with a .551 slugging percentage and, with 27 walks and 15 times hit by pitch, he posted a .435 on-base percentage.

He finished his career tied with Patrick Mazeika for the most times hit by pitch with 48. Over five seasons at Stetson, MacNeil played in 208 games, starting 172, and he finished with 165 hits.
