Hatters Fall at FGCU in Weather-Shortened Contest; Series Finale Canceled

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Stetson saw its Saturday contest at FGCU halted by weather and ultimately called in the top of the seventh inning, falling 10-6 at Swanson Stadium. The game, originally suspended due to inclement weather Saturday night, was slated to resume Sunday morning before being pushed back and eventually finalized as a complete game. The series finale was also canceled.

Stetson drops to 12-16 (3-5 ASUN), while FGCU improves to 19-8 (5-3 ASUN).

Despite the unusual finish, the Hatters showed offensive life throughout, with all nine starters reaching base safely and a four-run fourth inning highlighting the night.

FGCU struck first with a run in the third, but Stetson answered emphatically in the fourth. Jack Harley worked a walk and stole second to ignite the rally before Foster Apple delivered an RBI single. Yohann Dessureault followed with another RBI knock, and later in the inning, Samuel Fernandez roped a double to bring home Landon Russell. Renzo Gonzalez capped the surge with a sacrifice bunt, giving the Hatters a 4-2 advantage.

The Eagles responded in the fifth with a decisive five-run inning to swing momentum, highlighted by a two-run single. Stetson continued to battle, trimming the deficit to one in the sixth as Gonzalez and Fernandez came around to score on bases-loaded walks by Juan De la Cruz and Harley.

FGCU answered again in the bottom half, plating three runs to extend the lead to 10-6.

Weather halted play in the top of the seventh, and after multiple delays and a postponed restart attempt Sunday, the game was officially called, cementing the final score.

On the mound, Trace Hartman made the start, striking out four over four innings. Zane Coppersmith was tagged with the loss in relief, while Ethan Phillips and Thomas Achey also saw action out of the bullpen.
