Statesboro, Ga. -- Stetson University's women's soccer team fell 2-0 on the road Friday night as the Hatters faced the Eagles of Georgia Southern University. 
 
The Hatters (2-4-1) fell behind early as Georgia Southern created scoring opportunities right from the opening whistle. The Eagles (4-2-1) forced two corner kicks and took two shots in the opening four minutes of action. After the Eagles first shot hit off the crossbar, Georgia Southern's Marcela Montoya caught the rebound and found the back of the Stetson net to put GSU up 1-0. In the ninth minute, Stetson's Kyleigh Thelen had a shot on an open Georgia Southern goal, but an Eagles defensive save kept Georgia Southern in front. Stetson mustered four shots in the half, but the match remained 1-0 heading into the break. 
 
Coming out of the intermission, the Eagles created opportunities right away as Georgia Southern took a 2-0 lead just five minutes into the half. The Hatters out shot the Eagles 7-6 in the second half but had nothing to show until in the 90th minute. On a free kick a free kick with 30 seconds left in regulation, Thelen launched a shot from 20 yards out and netted it to put Stetson on the board before the clock hit zero. 
 
The Hatters and the Eagles each totaled 11 shots on the afternoon as Thelen had four with two on goal while Lea Alexander and Jackie Fiacco each totaled two for the Hatters. 
 
The Stetson University women's soccer team will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 16 as the Hatters travel to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on South Carolina State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
