Cameron Gillis Named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week

DeLand, Fla. -- Stetson kicker Cameron Gillis was named Pioneer Football League Special Teams Player of the Week following a 12-point performance vs. Warner on Saturday.

Gillis, a redshirt freshman, connected on a pair of career-long 35-yard field goals and hit six PATs in Stetson's 54-14 victory over the Royals. He registered his first field goal with 9:00 remaining in the first quarter and matched that boot on his second field goal with 10:34 remaining in the third quarter. His 6-for-7 efficiency in extra points made him just the second Hatter in the modern era to record six PATs in one game. Jonny Messina accomplished that feat seven times.

A native of Budapest, Hungary, Gillis is the 11th Stetson player to be named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week since the Hatters began play in the league in 2013. He is the first since punter Matt Clements was honored this past April.

The Hatters (1-0) will host Ave Maria (0-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Spec Martin Stadium.
