Hatter Women's Soccer Shows Fight but Falls to Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. -- Stetson women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Eastern Kentucky on a cool Sunday afternoon at the EKU Soccer field.

"I thought we controlled most of the game but had two unfortunate events and a goal called back," head coach Chris Bergmann said "It's about riding above your circumstances and keep moving forward. We played well enough to win the game, but it's just about finishing our opportunities. We'll take the lessons and move on to the next one."

The Hatters were on the front foot early as they controlled possession early forcing the issue against EKU. (class) forward Chloe Washington recorded the first shot of the match in the fifth minute, then put an attempt of the post in the 11th.

EKU found its footing in the following minutes, counterattacking off Stetson's extended possession, which led to the first goal.

As the home side pushed a counter, Kyleigh Thelen was whistled for a foul just inside the Hatter goalbox. Maddy Lemery found the net on the ensuing attempt to open the scoing [1-0] in the 23rd minute.

In the waning minutes of the first half, a misplay at the back gave EKU a two versus one situation. The Colonels played the situation to their advantage and the Hatters could only watch on as the scoreline doubled.

The match opened up with each side recording 10 shots in the second frame. Five of those attempts for the Hatters were on target, but neither side were able to change the score line for the final.

Hatter women's soccer will be back in action at the ATC Thursday night when Austin Peay comes to DeLand. The game will be live streamed on Hattervision YouTube with a scheduled kickoff of 7 p.m.
