Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hatters Women's Basketball falls to Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Stetson Women's Basketball battled but fell to Miami, 80-56, at the Watsco Center Thursday afternoon.

Stetson struggled to keep Miami in check through the first quarter as the home side dropped 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, 2-for-3 from behind the arc, for a 58.3 field goal percentage. Stetson managed 10 in the opening from six coming from Khamya McNeal with a pair of threes.

The Hatters kept it closer in the second frame, holding the Hurricane to 10 field goal attempts in the second quarter, five made, as the Hatters matched that total. The difference of the quarter, 15-11 points in favor of the home team, came from five-of-eight shooting from the foul line.

The third quarter saw both offenses open the taps as each team tallied seven field goals in the frame. Balanced scoring from Stetson saw six Hatters make a field goal, as the visiting side were more effective from the floor, 7-of-16 shooting compared to 7-for-20 on the other side, but the deficit still grew.

With an 18-point advantage entering the final period, the Hurricanes shooting still did not cool off, as the home side notched 23 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, with the final score rounding out to 80-56.

McNeal and Jaelyn Talley paced the Hatters with 15 points apiece. Stetson connected for 17 assists on 19 made field goals. Skylar Treadwell grabbed eight rebounds. Eight different Hats recorded an assist with Talley and Turner registering three each.

The Hatters return to action, and to DeLand, with a contest with Johnson Tuesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
