DELAND, Fla. – Stetson showed some sparks but were ultimately overpowered by Louisiana Tech, 73-50, Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Ruston-based squad jumped out to an early advantage going up 10-4 halfway through the first quarter, but a 5-0 run had the Hats within one [10-9].
Khamya McNeal hit a three followed by a layup from Jordan Peete, and a missed shot from Lousiana Tech that went out of bounds gave SU the ball and a chance to go in front. LT would contain the Hatter attack as a 10-0 run put SU on the back foot [20-9] and carried a nine-point lead Into the second quarter 22-13.
The second quarter Is where the game slipped away from Stetson after the Hatters were outscored 19-7. The majority of that damage came in the paint as La. Tech scored 12 points around the paint.
The second half was a two-point game, 32-30, but with the large advantage already established, Louisiana Tech carried the advantage to a 23-point win, 73-50.
The contest was not clean by either team as Stetson turned the ball over 22 times, 14 for the Lady Techsters. The Hatters could not hit outside shots either, as they were 4-for-20 from behind the arc. For positives,
Alyssa Hargrove registered 10 points In 21 minutes on the court. McNeal paced the Hatters with 12 points. six rebounds. Stetson outrebounded the opposition 39-36.
Kiya Turner notched eight points with seven rebounds.
Stetson will play two more games In Las Vegas with tomorrow's contest tipping off at 4:30 p.m., with UC San Diego lining up on the other side of the court.
