CONWAY, Ark. – Hatter men's soccer suffered a disappointing end to the season after falling to Bellarmine, 2-2 3-0 PKs, at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
The style of play by Bellarmine limited the chances of the game and the Knights struck first. After working deep into the Hatters final third, the ball bounced around and landed kindly for Rahim Shalash. The Knight crossed it in front of the goal and Brock Pope put in the first goal of the match, 1-0, 105 seconds before halftime.
The Hatters tied it up in the 65th minute. A long over the top play for
Gabriel Toro forced the BU defense to put the ball out for a corner kick.
Charles Ahl's corner connected perfect with the run of Luis Lara, 1-1 with 25 minutes to go.
Nine minutes and change later, the Knights went back in front after an offensive attack culminated with Chris Shust capping the attack off at the 74:32 mark.
Gio Rodriguez tied the match again for the Hatters. The Ball bounced around the box before being partially cleared to the feet of Rodriguez. The midfielder smashed it toward net beating everyone before bulging the net.
After a scoreless overtime and double-overtime. The Hatters and Knights lined up for penalty kicks. The Hatters could not find the net and were eliminated 3-0 in the penalty shootout.
