TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Hatter women's basketball struggled with Florida State eventually falling, 83-48, Sunday afternoon in the Donald R. Tucker Center.
Stetson drops to 4-5, while the Seminoles sit at 9-1 with the possibility of receiving votes in the top 25 poll next week.
The Seminoles were all over the Hatters to start the game, scoring the first 19 of the first 20 points of the game.
Alyssa Hargrove, one of the Hatter bright spots, scored the first field goal for the visitors, a fast-break layup, with 2:18 left in the first quarter. The frame would end with the home team up 23-5.
After taking it on the chin, the Hatters punched back in the second quarter. FSU continued to score, pushing the advantage to 22, 27-5, but Stetson chipped away. The Hatters drained four threes in the second frame, to go along with shooting 40 percent from the floor. While it did not affect the game, SU outscored the Seminoles 16-14 in the frame, but still trailed by 16 going into halftime, 37-21.
Florida State stretched the advantage in the second half, outscoring Stetson by 19 across the final two quarters and taking a 35-point win.
Hargrove 16 to pace that Hatters with four rebounds and a tied team-leading three steals.
Kiya Turner also posted three steals with five points.
Maddie Novak was efficient with eight points in 13 minutes played, shooting 2-of-3 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the foul line.
Khamya McNeal scored seven points while grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Three Hatters had two assists, McNeal, Turner and
Jordan Peete.
Stetson makes a road trip to Nashville to face off with Tennessee State next Sunday in the Gentry Center. Tipoff will be at noon local, 1 p.m. eastern.
