Slow start hinders Hatters as Stetson falls 67-45 to Jacksonville

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's basketball team fell 67-45 in a rematch with Jacksonville University Wednesday night at the Edmunds Center. 
 
The Hatters (11-15, 5-8 ASUN) went scoreless through the first five and a half minutes and faced a 10-0 deficit by the 14:33 mark. At the 14:16 mark, a Chase Johnston floater broke Stetson's scoreless streak. The Hatters cut it to an eight-point deficit, 17-9, with 10 minutes to play, but the Dolphins (17-8, 9-4) finished the first half on a 19-9 run and took a 36-18 lead into the break. 
 
Out of the intermission, Jacksonville continued to pour it on as the Dolphins lead ballooned to 28 with 7:50 left in regulation. Stetson went had a 5-3 run at the 5:13 mark but it was not enough to spark the offense late in the game. 
 
Wednesday night's game was the 20th time this season that the Hatters have outscored their first half point total in the second half. 
 
Johnston led all Hatters scorers with 12 points on the night while freshman Alex Crawford matched his career-high and season-high with 11 points. The Chula Vista native went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. 
 
Stetson hits the road for two of its final three games as the Hatters head north to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty on Saturday, Feb. 19 and then head to Kennesaw, Ga. for a bout with the Owls. Tip-off for both games is at 7 p.m. and both will be streamed on ESPN+.
