Atlanta, Ga. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team went 1-1 on its weekend trip to Georgia as the Hatters dropped a hard-fought dual match 4-3 to Georgia State Sunday afternoon.
In doubles action, the Hatters (4-3) fell behind 1-0 right out of the gate as GSU took all three matches to open the afternoon.
Following the three losses in doubles play, Stetson rebounded well, rattling off three straight wins in singles play. On courts four, five and one,
Ervin Eminefendic,
Fabian Penzkofer and
Diogo Marques gave the Hatters a lift as the trio won all three matches and put the Hatters in the driver's seat.
After the Panthers (3-1) saw victories on both court three and court two, the match was knotted at 3 apiece and came down to
Tim Gennes and Edward Tymes on court six. Gennes opened the match with a 6-3 decision but then after GSU took an exhaustive, back-and-forth second set (7-5), Gennes eventually fell 6-4 in the winner-take-all third set.
The Stetson men's tennis team sits idle for a week before the Hatters return to action at Florida Atlantic University on Saturday, Feb. 12. First serve is set for noon.
