Johnston, Tumblin earn ASUN postseason awards

Atlanta, Ga. -- Two members of the Stetson University men's basketball team earned ASUN postseason honors as sophomore Chase Johnston was named ASUN Second-Team All-Conference and freshman Alvin Tumblin was named to the ASUN All-Freshmen team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. 
 
It is the first time since Rob Perry in the 2019-20 season, that a Hatter earned a spot on the ASUN Second-Team All-Conference team. Johnston, a Boca Raton native entered the 2021-22 season coming off his Freshman of the Year campaign a year prior. The sophomore guard continued his dominance in his second season with the Hatters as he is fifth in the ASUN in points per game with 15.3 and second in made 3-point field goals with 98. His 98 3-pointers set a new Stetson men's basketball record for made 3's in a single season and he is currently eighth in the nation in the category. Johnston is also sixth in steals and fifth in total minutes played (962), field goals made (154) and total points (444). He is the 19th Hatter to be named a second-team all-conference player. 
 
Tumblin, a freshman from Sebring, Florida earned ASUN All-Freshmen team honors. It is the third year in a row that Stetson has had at least one representative on the All-Freshmen team. In his first year with the Hatters, the Sebring native has averaged 6.2 points per game with 3.1 boards and a 51.3 field goal percentage. His 25 blocks on the year were tops on the Hatters and eighth in the ASUN. On Jan. 18 against FGCU, Tumblin recorded his first career 20-point game with 22 points against the Eagles, as he went 10-for-15 from the field. He joins Johnston, Mahamadou Diawara, and Rob Perry as active Hatters named to the All-Freshmen team. 

Johnston, Tumblin and the rest of the Hatters continue their season on Tuesday, March 1 as No. 6 seeded Stetson squares off against No. 3 seeded Central Arkansas in the First Round of the 2021-22 ASUN Championship tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST and will be streamed on ESPN+.
