Hatters Hoping To Face FSU Today

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Stetson baseball team made the trip to Tallahassee on Tuesday in hopes of being able to square off against Florida State on Wednesday afternoon.

The game is in jeopardy, however, due to a weather forecast that is calling for rain and thunderstorms all afternoon in the Tallahassee area. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Both teams currently stand with records of 16-11 on the season. If the game is played, it will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra via ESPN+ with Trevor DeGroot and Chip Baker on the call.

If the game is played, the Hatters expect to send junior right-hander Tanner Martin (1-0, 1.59) to the mound to make his first start. A transfer from Tallahassee Community College, Martin split his efforts over three years there between starting and relieving. During his time at TCC he made 13 starts and averaged 9.81 K/9 with a 3.69 ERA.

Florida State, which was scheduled to host Jacksonville in Tuesday night but had that game rained out, is expected to send sophomore RHP Carson Montgomery (3-1, 3.82) out for his seventh start of the year. Montgomery had been scheduled to face JU on Tuesday.

Stetson has not won at Florida State's Dick Howser Stadium since 2011, having dropped 15 consecutive games on the Seminoles' home field. FSU leads the all-time series 66-25.

Stetson is coming off a victory in its weekend series against UNF, the second straight weekend series win for the Hatters. Florida State, meanwhile, was swept at home by Notre Dame over the weekend and comes into play this week having lost five straight games overall.

The Hatters and Seminoles have played five common opponents so far this year. FSU is 3-4 against UCF, Florida, FGCU, Bethune-Cookman and Notre Dame while Stetson is winless, 0-8, against those same teams. The only other common opponents on the schedules are Jacksonville and Miami. FSU is 0-1 against JU. Stetson has not played either team yet.

The Hatters will return to Melching Field this weekend for another big ASUN conference series against East Division co-leader Kennesaw State. The Owls are 18-9 overall and 7-2 in ASUN play going into their scheduled non-conference game tonight at Georgia Southern. Games this weekend are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
