DELAND, Fla. - The Stetson University softball team registered a 2-1 victory over Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at Patricia Wilson Field thanks to a pair of Hatter solo home runs and the pitching of
Lauren Klein.Â
Klein allowed one run on five hits and registered her sixth complete game of the year in the circle as she improved her record to 6-6.Â
Stetson (16-22) gave Klein a 2-0 lead after four frames on a pair of solo home runs.
Jordyn Stanfill launched hers to center with one out in the third and
Lizzie Shubert blasted hers deep to left with two outs in the fourth. For each, it was their fourth of the year, while it was Shubert's 26th of her Hatter career.
Meanwhile, in the field, the Hatters, who entered the game 27th in the nation in double plays per game (0.43)Â turned their 17th of the year in the third frame.Â
Bethune-Cookman (11-22), who left three on base through four innings, mounted its best threat by loading the bases in the fifth with no outs.
Klein allowed just a sacrifice fly in the fifth to end the jam, then retired six of the last seven to complete the game.
Stetson returns to action this weekend to face Florida Gulf Coast in an ASUN three-game series at Patricia Wilson Field starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.Â
