Hatters Drop Series Opener to KSU

The Stetson Hatters struggled on Friday's ASUN series opener, falling to the Kennesaw State Owls 11-1.

Junior Danny Garcia (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Stetson (16-13, 4-6). Freshman Dominic Stagliano was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.

The Owls (19-9, 8-2) gave starting pitcher Jack Myers (3-1) all the runs he needed in the second inning, with the big blow a grand slam off the bat of leadoff hitter Josh Hatcher. KSU added three more runs on homers by Zac Corbin and Cash Young in the third and never looked back.

Myers kept the Stetson offense at bay, throwing seven innings, allowing just the one run on five hits. Freshman Yohann Dessureault singled in Trae Harmon in the seventh to plate the only Hatters' run.

KSU piled up 13 hits against the five Stetson pitchers. Donovan Cash led the way with three hits while Young homered twice and was one of four Owls with two hits in the game.

The Hatters will try to bounce back on Saturday when the teams square off in the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
