LYNCHBURG, Va – Stetson men's basketball fell on the road to top of the ASUN Conference Standings, Liberty Flames, 74-45, Thursday night in Liberty Arena.
Despite the loss, Stetson (11-9, 6-3 ASUN) still sits tied for third in the ASUN. Liberty (17-5, 8-1 ASUN) are enjoying a five-game win streak.
The Hatters kept pace with the flames early with the game with the sides trading the advantage throughout the first eight minutes of play eventually settling at 14-14 at the game's second media timeout. The Flames started building some distance following building a double-digit lead when Brody Peebles hit back-to-back threes making it 27-16.
Jalen Blackmon found an answer with a pair of jumpers, brining the Hats within seven, 27-20, with 3:44 left in the first half, but Liberty closed the half on a 9-2 run, taking a 36-22 advantage into the locker room.
Stetson attempted to chip away, but the Flames matched SU beat-for-beat in the beginning of the second half where every time the Hats would close the gap, the home side had an answer. As the game wore on, LU stretched the advantage, eventually taking the win 74-45.
The Hats head south to Charlotte to face on Queens on Saturday at Curry Arena with tip scheduled for 1 p.m. It will be the first time the programs have met and will be streamed on ESPN+.
