THE LEAD
Stetson Men's Soccer continues their homestand by playing host to Queens University of Charlotte at the Athletic Training Center on Saturday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM as the Hatters look to pick up their second conference win.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Stetson holds a 1-0 advantage from their first meeting last year on September 3, 2022, securing a 2-0 victory at home. In that match, Luis Lara played a key role by scoring the opening goal in the 66th minute.

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (4-3-3, 1-1-1 ASUN)
Stetson enters the upcoming matchup with a 4-3-3 record, including a 1-1-1 record in conference play. In their recent game, the Hatters played to a 1-1 draw against Jacksonville in a rain-soaked contest.

The pivotal moment in the match came in the 75th minute when Gabriel Toro scored the go-ahead goal. Afonso Conde, who is tied for the team's highest number of assists with 3, initiated the play with a shot into the box that ultimately deflected to Toro.

Stetson's offensive prowess has been evident this season, as they've launched an ASUN-leading 164 shots, with 62 of them hitting the target. Notably, they hold the distinction of earning the most corner kicks with 69. The team's total of 55 points has been generated from 19 goals and 17 assists, resulting in an average of 1.9 goals per game, second only to Lipscomb. In half of their ten games, Stetson has taken the lead first. Leading the offensive charge is Lara, who has taken 26 shots and netted four goals, a tally he shares with Andres Mata, ranking them 4th in the ASUN. Both players have also contributed an assist, bringing their total points to nine apiece. In terms of assists, Charles Ahl and Xavi Csato join Conde at the top of the team's charts with three assists each.

In the goalkeeping department, Nicolo Radaelli has been a consistent presence, starting in all ten games. He's faced 103 shots and made 32 saves, the second-highest in the conference, while allowing 16 goals. Radaelli boasts a .667 save percentage and has been part of three shutouts this season, including one that was a combined effort. His outstanding performance earned him the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week award for the week of September 22, a historic first for the Stetson program.

SCOUTING THE ROYALS (2-6-2, 0-3-0 ASUN)
Queens enters the upcoming match with a 2-6-2 record, having faced challenges in their three conference games thus far. Their record is identical both at home and on the road, with a mark of 1-3-1. In the 2023 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll, Queens was picked to finish 8th.

Their most recent conference match against Bellarmine ended in heartbreak, with the Knights scoring a last second goal to secure a 1-0 victory. However, Queens bounced back in their last outing, securing a 1-0 victory of their own against the College of Charleston, despite being outshot 20-4.

Offensively, Queens has found the net eight times on 96 attempted shots this season while allowing 20 goals against them. They've put 38 of those shots on target and earned 24 corner kicks, contributing to their total of 20 points.

Leading the charge in scoring is senior forward Mario Goic, who has three goals on 25 shots, ranking him fifth in the conference. Goic also boasts an assist, making him the Royals' top point-scorer with seven points. Several other Royals have also contributed goals, including Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi, who scored the game-winner against the College of Charleston in their last match. In addition to Goic, Michel Feldman and Cole Pumpian have tallied assists, with Feldman leading the team with two.

In the net, Queens has relied on a trio of keepers this season. Sophomore Javier Izquierdo-Cuervo has made five starts and boasts a 12:20 goals allowed to saves ratio, including one shutout on 59 shots faced. In recent games, freshman Evan Morris has taken the reins, starting four of the last five matches. Morris has faced 65 shots, made 21 saves, and allowed only two goals, resulting in a .913 save percentage and two shutouts.

Notably, the trio of Goic, Izquierdo-Cuervo, and defender Samuel Idinge received conference weekly honors for the week of August 29, highlighting their contributions to the Royals' efforts.

NEXT UP
The Hatters will finish off their homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 6:00 PM as they host Embrey-Riddle University (Fla.) for a non-conference game at the Athletic Training Center.
