Houston, TX – The Hatters took on sixth ranked Houston tonight at the Fertitta Center falling 48-79.
The first three minutes couldn't have been a better start for the Hatters as
Alec Oglesby and
Jalen Blackmon both hit shots from beyond the arc to take a 6-2 lead. However, a handful of turnovers would provide the Cougars with the lead before
Tristan Gross would hit a three to cut the lead to ten.
Aubin Gateretse would hit a layup to cut it to seven. The Hatters would end up committing 17 turnovers in the first half as they trailed 16-38. Gross would lead the Hatters at halftime with 6 points.
At the start of the second half the Hatters looked much more collected only turning the ball over six times. Stetson would be able to double their offensive output from the first half by totaling 32 points with 8 coming from Blackmon. The defense all stepped up as in the 2nd half the Cougars were held to only three second chance points. Limiting the offensive rebounds allowed the Hatters to work the ball around in transition to find the open man.
Stetson shot 44% from the field going 18-41 and 50% from three on 9-18 shooting. Oglesby and Blackmon tied for the team lead with 11 points as both hit three shots from beyond the arc.
Treyton Thompson led the team in rebounds with four as Swenson and
Giancarlo Valdez would tie for the team lead in assists with three.
Looking ahead, the Hatters will take part in the Sunshine Slam on November 20 in Daytona Beach. They will tip-off against Milwaukee at 1:30pm in the Ocean Center.
