Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Stetson women's basketball team faced the Florida Atlantic Owls on the road in Boca Raton on Monday night, following their first home win against Iona on Saturday. Despite the loss, the Hatters displayed strong defense, allowing the Owls only 1-11 shooting from beyond the arc.Â
The game kicked off with a Skylar Treadwell three-pointer, from the wing, setting an early tone. The Hatters continued their quick start with Promise Keshi sinking an open three, after Diawna Carter-Hartley evaded a double team, prior to Khamya McNeal's layup which interrupted an Owls' run. The back-and-forth action continued, featuring bucket exchanges between Sophia Fontaine and the Owls, with McNeal intervening with a crucial three-pointer just before the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw the Hatters building momentum, sparked by Keshi's turnaround jumper, initiating a 7-0 run. Jordan Peete's three-pointer, assisted by Jamiya Turner, and Turner's jumper after grabbing an offensive rebound added to the Hatters' lead. Despite a resilient effort from FAU, Keshi's three-pointer, assisted by Peete, and a final jumper from Turner secured a 29-22 halftime lead for the Hatters.
The third quarter opened with a pair of free throws from Turner, maintaining a nine-point lead. However, the Hatters faced a scoring drought until Keshi found Peete for a crucial three-pointer, contributing to a six-point lead entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Owls mounted a 19-2 run, securing the victory with a final score of 50-39. Turner managed to score a late basket, but it was not enough to overturn the deficit.
Keshi led the Hatters with 10 points off the bench, while Turner and Peete scored 8 and 6 points, respectively. Turner also excelled with 8 rebounds, including 4 offensive, and 4 assists. Jaelyn Talley secured 8 rebounds, 3 on offense.
As a team, Stetson went 14 of 52 on field goal attempts and 6 of 18 from beyond the arc. Their free-throw shooting remained consistent at 5-7. Despite being outrebounded 39-32, the Hatters scored ten points in the paint and five on second-chance opportunities. They forced the Owls into 15 turnovers and score 13 points as a result.
Looking ahead, the Hatters will have the opportunity to bounce back when they face Dayton at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach on Friday, November 24.
