THE LEAD
Following a 57-68 loss on the road to the Tulane Green Wave in their season-opener on Monday night, the Hatters continue their early season road trip as they stay in the American Conference to face off with the USF Bulls in Tampa on Friday afternoon at the Yuengling Center

INSIDE THE SERIES
Despite having clashed 13 times previously, the Hatters are yet to secure a victory against the Bulls. As they gear up for their fourteenth meeting, the Hatters are determined to rewrite the narrative and alter their fortunes on the court.

Interestingly, all past encounters between these teams have taken place in Tampa, with Stetson never having had the home-court advantage. The series' inception dates back to November 21, 2006, with the inaugural face-off resulting in a win for USF with a score of 95-52 against the Hatters. In their most recent clash on December 15, 2021, Stetson faced a tough challenge against the #16 ranked Bulls, ultimately falling short with a score of 69-50.

Throughout their visits to Tampa, Stetson's offensive performance has accumulated a total of 692 points across these 13 matchups, averaging approximately 53.23 points per game. 

SCOUTING THE HATTERS (0-1, 0-0 ASUN)
The Hatters began the new campaign on the road with a trip to New Orleans on Monday night, ending with a 57-68 loss to the Green Wave. The game began with Stetson trailing by six at halftime, staying resilient by posting a quarter-high of 21 points in the second half. However, the third quarter saw a slight setback as the Hatters were outscored 6-12. They rallied back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Tulane 17-16, although it wasn't enough to secure the win.

Senior guard Jordan Peete emerged as a pivotal force for the Hatters, leading the team in points despite coming off the bench. Peete shot 5 of 7 from the field, including 2 of 3 from beyond the arc, to tally 14 points while contributing on the glass with five rebounds.

Additionally, Jamiya Turner flashed her offensive capabilities by reaching double-digit figures, scoring 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Khamya McNeal and Promise Keshi followed suit, scoring 8 and 7 points, respectively.

The Hatters tallied five assists in the contest, two of which came from the hands of Kiya Turner. In addition to her two dishes, Turner displayed a well-rounded performance by adding four points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal to her stat line.

Despite facing a slight deficit in assists compared to the Green Wave, the Hatters remained competitive in rebounding, trailing by a marginal two rebounds (38-36). Notably, Stetson excelled on the offensive boards, securing 12 rebounds, with sophomore forward Jaelyn Talley contributing four of those, rounding off the game with seven total boards, displaying the same strong rebounding form seen during the previous season.

The match also offered glimpses of the team's newcomers, with freshmen Diawna Carter-Hartley and Sophia Fontaine making appearances. Carter-Hartley showcased her potential by contributing five points, three rebounds, and a block.

As a team, the Hatters capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities, scoring 13 points off turnovers and seven from second-chance plays. Notably, they dominated the paint, outscoring Tulane 28-18 below the basket, reflecting a strong inside presence.

SCOUTING THE BULLS (1-0, 0-0 AMERICAN)
The USF Bulls, coming off a season in which they went a dominate 27-7 and 15-1 in conference, began their season as the favorites to win the American Conference this season with 166 points and 10 first place votes. A season prior, the Bulls went 14-1 from the comfort of home as they prepare to host the Hatters for their second game of the season. South Florida is already 1-0 at home this current season, coming in off a 76-61 win over the visiting UT Arlington Mavericks.

Leading the Bulls to start the year was sophomore forward Daniela Gonzalez, who went a perfect 6 of 6 from field including a lone three-pointer to finish with 16. Gonzalez, who logged 30 minutes in the win, also pulled in six rebounds, five of which were on offense and was a force on defense, recording three blocks and two steals. She was one of four Bulls to reach double-figures and one of two to tally three blocks. 

Vittoria Blasigh registered 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting off the bench while hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Romi Levi and Carla Brito each recorded 10 points in the win, with the latter of the two grabbing five rebounds. 

The Bulls dominated the paint in the last game, outrebounding the Mavs 52-34 and outscored them 38-14 below the basket. Senior forward Evelin Lutje-Schipholt and sophomore Emma Johansson led the team with seven rebounds each. Largely in part to Gonzalez's offensive reboudning, the Bulls outscored the Mavericks, 17-6 on second chance points.

As a team, the Bulls went 43.1 percent from the floor, making 28 of their 65 shot attempts. USF also went four of 17 from three-point range (23.5%) and saw 16 of their points come from the line.

Defensively, USF held UT Arlington to 20 of 63 shooting from the field (31.7%) and 11-22 from beyond the arc (50%). They recorded nine blocks, three of which came from Lutje-Schipholt, and seven steals while scoring 13 points off of turnovers.
