Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Stetson Women's Basketball Honors Seniors, Falls to Lipscomb

DELAND, Fla. - Stetson Women's Basketball fell to Lipscomb 68-52 on senior day, Saturday afternoon in the Edmunds Center. Before the contests started, the traditional senior day ceremony was performed recognizing the five senior Hatters: Sydney Gouard, Maddie Novak, Jamiya Turner, Kiya Turner, and Mali Morgan-Elliott.

The Bisons started the scoring, gaining a 5-0 lead to start the first quarter. At the 7:53 mark, Jaelyn Talley put the Hatters on the board with a layup, getting the score to 5-2. Offensive production by Khamya McNeal, Jamiya Turner, and another layup by Talley put Stetson in the lead towards the middle of the frame, 10-9. The Hatters stretched their lead to 4 at the end of the first quarter, 16-12.

Jordan Peete started the Hatter offense in the second quarter with a layup, putting the team up by 6, 18-12. Skylar Treadwell created offensive opportunities for her teammates, as she collected an offensive rebound for Peete to put in a two-pointer. Treadwell followed this play with a defensive rebound and knocked down a shot behind the arc, 27-20. After some back-and-forth play, the Bisons were able to take the lead with a three-pointer with only 1:40 left on the clock. Lipscomb kept the lead going into the locker room with a buzzer-beating three to end the half, 37-30.

Stetson, forced to play catch-up while trailing, could not successfully close the gap on the visitors. Kiya Turner brought the margin to six, 50-44, but the guests wearing gray stretched the advantage back to double digits, 54-44, 58 seconds later.

The Hatters were unable to generate enough offense to close the gap in the fourth quarter as the Bisons took a 68-52 win.

Jaelyn Talley paced the Hatters in scoring with 12 points along with a team-high in rebounds [8]. Khamya McNeal also scored in double figures [10]. Jamiya Turner scored six points along with seven rebounds.
