Hatter Softball Dominates the Stetson Invitational

DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson softball team came up huge this weekend with four out of five wins at Patricia Wilson Field. The long weekend began with a 2-1 loss against the Fairfield Stags, but Coach Shellie Robinson and her Hatters were ready to bounce back. Later that afternoon, SU secured a 3-1 victory over the Mercer Bears.

Saturday's games were monumental in memory for the Hatters. Sophomore Kami Eppley hit her first career home run in the fourth inning against Mercer, which she said was a surreal moment. The Hatters secured an 8-0 victory over the Bears, allowing the game to finish early. In the second game against Fairfield, Eppley scored her second run of the night, bringing the score to 1-0. In the middle of the fifth, junior Briana Robinson astonished the crowd at Patricia Wilson when she homered to left center for her first career home run and first as a Hatter. Junior Evette Morgan scored the last run of the night for Stetson; a final score of 3-0.

Sunday's contest against Monmouth concluded with a 6-1 victory. Runs from freshman Haley Yeary, sophomore Dylan Anthony, and senior Alyssa Gilman helped the Hatters to victory and also marked their firsts of the season. Stetson also saw scores from junior Juls Schumacher and senior Marissa Baxter.

The Hatters will look to continue their success on Wednesday, February 23 for a midweek crowd erupting contest against the University of Central Florida at Patricia Wilson Field.
