Hatter Men's Basketball Sweeps FGCU, Clinches Winning Season

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Stetson men's basketball notched another win on the year taking down in-state ASUN rival Florida Gulf Coast, 88-84, Saturday night in Alico Arena. The win matches the second highest amount of ASUN wins in a season in program history.

Stetson (16-11, 11-5 AUN) has won five of its last six games, all in ASUN play, all in the state of Florida. FGCU (16-13, 6-10 ASUN) was on a two-game win streak prior to facing the Hatters, now is on a two-game losing streak.

After playing to a 10-10 tie, Stetson went on a 6-0 run with 15:59 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Panzo, to take a 16-10 lead. The Hatters stretched the margin to as much as eight on three different occasions, 41-33 at 3:48 remaining as the final time, but entered halftime with a 50-45 advantage.

After keeping the Eagles at bay, FGCU proceeded to take a 74-71 lead before Stetson went back in front after an 8-0 run, capped off by Blackmon's jumper, to seize a 79-74 lead with 4:35 to go in the contest. Panzo knocked down a three with 3:14 remaining to push the score to 84-75 with the home side getting as close as four, with Stetson taking the win in Fort Myers.

The Hatters had four players score in double figures, led by Luke Brown, who had 22 points. Jalen Blackmon added 21 points and six rebounds with Wheza Panzo helping out with 15 points and six rebounds. Stetson out-rebounded FGCU 35-26 in Saturday's game, led by Panzo Blackmon's six boards.

The Hatters now turn their attention to Austin Peay, with the Governors coming to the Edmunds Center for a Wednesday matchup that can potentially clinch the fourth seed and a quarterfinal matchup in the ASUN tournament to be played in DeLand. Wednesday's game will start at 7 p.m. with a live stream available on ESPN+.
