Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hatter Women's Basketball falls on the road to FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Stetson fell to the ASUN league leaders Florida Gulf Coast University, 100-58, Wednesday night in Alico Arena.

Stetson's (11-14, 5-7 ASUN) two-game road win-streak was snapped. FGCU (23-3, 11-1 ASUN) piled up another home win.

Jordan Peete started the scoring when she knocked down a three after Jaelyn Talley collected an offensive rebound and earned the assist, but the home side tied it 14 seconds later. The two sides stayed close through the halfway-point of the frame, 12-8 with 4:50 left after an eagle field goal from Alyza Winston. A few minutes later, Jamiya Turner tied the game at 15 with a jumper with 2:53 on the clock, but the Eagle offense fired up to end the quarter on a 12-2 run [27-7].

Stetson traded baskets with FGCU to keep pace and prevented the Eagles from expanding the advantage until the close of the half. Talley cut the deficit to 11 after a layup with 3:30 left in the half, but FGCU outscored the Hatters by eight to close the half up 19, 61-42.

While Stetson slowed down the Eagle offense, the Hatters were unable to close the gap as the home side took a 100-58 win.

Khamya McNeal paced the Hatters in scoring with 16 points off the bench to go along with team high in steals [2] and assists [4]. Jamiya Turner also scored in double figures with Kiya Turner falling one point shy. Talley collected nine rebounds, four on the offensive glass along with seven points.

The two teams play each other again Saturday with a 1 p.m. tipoff in the return game, this time in the Edmunds Center. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+.
