Hatters Fall Twice to Queens in ASUN Opener

Game 3 moved to Saturday at 10 a.m.

DeLand, Fla. – Queens University swept Friday's conference opening doubleheader from Stetson, winning by scores of 2-1 and 5-2 at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Royals improved to 10-9 overall and 2-0 in the ASUN.  The Hatters fell to 16-12, 0-2.

Queen's quieted Stetson's bats for most of the day. Evette Morgan accounted for the Hatters' lone tally in game 1 with a solo home run to centerfield, a hard line drive that cut through the teeth of the wind.

Marissa Baxter and Brianna Clary each drove in runs in game 2.  Baxter delivered a pinch-hit single and Clary, a sacrifice fly to left.  Both runs scored in the bottom of the seventh inning. Clary collected three of the Hatters' nine hits on the day to raise her average to the .400 mark.

Hannah Marien (6-4) went the distance in the opener, allowing two runs on five hits.  She walked none and struck out seven.

Lauren Hobbs (7-3) (5.1 innings) and Lauren Klein (1.2 innings) combined in the circle for the Hatters in game 2.

Autumn Courtney and Abby Craver each tossed complete games for the Royals.

With rain expected in the area late Saturday into Sunday, Game 3 of the ASUN series has been moved to 10 a.m. Saturday.
