DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters stepped out of ASUN play on Tuesday night, making the short trip to Daytona Beach for a midweek matchup against Bethune-Cookman. Despite a big night from catcher
Daniel Labrador the Hatters came up short, falling 13-5.
Bethune-Cookman (11-10) grabbed an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of runs in the first, but the Hatters would get a run back in the third when Labrador collected his second home run of the season to lead off the inning.
Â
Stetson (14-9) continued the scoring in the fourth inning, getting a leadoff single from first baseman
Landon Moran, who then moved to second on a wild pitch. A single from second baseman
Andrew Estrella would drive in Moran to even the score. Right fielder
David Bermudez followed with a single of his own, before a Wildcat error on a sharply hit ball by Labrador plated Estrella to put the Hatters on top. Pinch hitter Jayden Hilton added to the lead, singling through the left side and driving in Bermudez to put the score at 4-2.
After the Wildcats retook the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and added on five more in the fifth, Stetson would get one back in the sixth when Labrador picked up his second home run of the night to cut it to 10-5 Bethune-Cookman.
Â
BCU would add a single run in each of the next three innings, taking a 13-5 lead into the ninth, where the Hatters were unable to rally.
Â
Labrador was the only Stetson batter with multiple hits on the day, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Bermudez, Moran, Estrella, and outfielder
Evan Griffis all reached base twice.
Â
Stetson returns to ASUN action on the road this weekend, travelling to Jacksonville for a three-game set at North Florida. The Hatters and Ospreys will square off at 6:05 PM Friday night, 2:05 PM Saturday afternoon, and 1:05 PM Sunday afternoon.Â
