Hatters Drop Doubleheader at UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters were back in action on Saturday, taking on North Florida in a doubleheader in Jacksonville. The Hatters came up short in both games on the day, falling 5-1 and 5-2.

The day's first game saw UNF (19-10, 2-3 ASUN) strike twice in the second and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead, but the Hatters (17-15, 1-4 ASUN) would get a run back in the sixth when catcher Dylan Anthony doubled home first baseman Briana Robinson to cut the Osprey lead to 4-1.

Another Osprey run in the bottom of the sixth would close out the game's scoring.

Hannah Marien (7-6) took the hard-luck loss after allowing four runs, just one earned, on five hits while striking out three in 4.0 innings, while Caitlyn Kulczyski worked the final 2.0 innings and surrendered an unearned run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout.

Anthony was the only Hatter to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Shortstop Kami Epply and designated player Juls Schumacher each added a hit, while Robinson recorded three walks.

The Ospreys again grabbed an early lead in game two, scoring once in the first and three times in the second.

Stetson would threaten in the third, when left fielder Alyssa Gilman led off with a single and advanced on a wild pitch. Following a pair of outs, second baseman Evette Morgan was hit by a pitch and center fielder Annabella McClerrin worked a walk to load the bases, but a flyout ended the rally attempt.

The Hatters got on the board in the fourth, as Anthony led off with a single and, after advancing on another single from Gilman, came in to score on an RBI single from right fielder Haley Fox.

Stetson struck again in the fifth, when Morgan started the inning off with a single before yielding in favor of pinch runner Haley Yeary. A pair of productive outs moved Yeary to third, before third baseman Marissa Baxter drove her in with a double down the left-field line to cut the UNF lead to 4-2.

The Ospreys would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth, and the Hatters would put a pair on in the top of the seventh, but they were unable to rally.

Lauren Hobbs (7-4) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, and striking out one in 1.1 innings of work. Lauren Klein threw the final 4.2 innings, limiting UNF to one run on five hits with one strikeout.

Gilman went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Robinson was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks.

The Hatters look to salvage the series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
