Hatters Blank Lipscomb 1-0 to Take ASUN Series

Schumacher, Hobbs lead the effort

Nashville, Tenn. -- Juls Schumacher hit her first home run of the season and Lauren Hobbs fired a four-hit shutout as Stetson blanked Lipscomb 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Draper Diamond.

The Hatters (20-17, 4-5 ASUN) picked up their 20th win of the season and took the three-game ASUN series from the Bisons (14-18, 4-5) two games to one.

Schumacher's homer broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning.  With one out, she belted the first offering from Britney Kita over the left field wall to give Stetson a 1-0 lead.

That would be all the offense Hobbs (8-6) would need, as the junior left-hander was terrific from start to finish.  Hobbs scattered three hits, all singles, while walking one and striking out four.  She did not allow a runner past second base in recording her second shutout of the season.  The Hatters played errorless ball behind her.

Gia Napoli went 2-for-2 at the plate and recorded three assists at third base.

Overall, Stetson has recorded eight shutouts this season, six of which have come by a 1-0 decision.

The Hatters will return home to face Jacksonville State (9-0 ASUN) next weekend at Patricia Wilson Field.  The teams will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday and a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
