Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters and Florida Gulf Coast Eagles were back in action at Swanson Stadium for game two of their ASUN conference match-up on Saturday afternoon. The Hatters found themselves on their back foot early and were unable to right the ship, falling to the Eagles 11-1 in seven innings.
FGCU (34-12, 17-6 ASUN) used a pair of home runs to grab a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Stetson (27-18, 16-7 ASUN) answered in the top of the second when catcher
Christian Pregent reached on a one-out double right field before coming in on a single from designated hitter
Daniel Labrador.
That would all the offense the Hatters would generate though, as they managed just two, both singles from third baseman
Drew Wyers the rest of the way.
FGCU did the majority of their damage in the bottom of the inning, scoring seven of their 11 runs and collecting seven of their 13 hits in the second.
TJ Melani and
Dylan Jacobs worked the final 4.0 innings on the mound for Stetson, combining to allow just one run on three hits. Melani added one strike out.
The loss drops the Hatters back into second place in the ASUN standings, a game back of the Eagles, and half a game back of Lipscomb. Stetson will look to move back into a tie for first with a win in the series finale tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM.
