DELAND, FLA.- The Hatters fell to the Buccaneers 5-1 at the ATC on Thursday evening.
Stetson pressured early on, however the visiting Buccaneers would strike first with a goal in the 27
th minute.
Keli Zavatsky had an opportunity in the 30
th minute when the Charleston Southern goalie came out to play the ball leaving the net open. Zavatsky attempted to chip the ball over the goalie but the shot was a little high and wide. The Hatters would spend a majority of the first half with possession, even though Charleston Southern would net another goal prior to the half making it 2-0 in favor of the Bucs.
The Buccaneers would score a goal to open the half, then newcomer,
Annika Seem shined again as she would score the Hatters lone goal. Seem's goal came on a penalty kick in the 71
st minute as she got the goalie to dive left before putting the ball in the back of the net. That is her third goal in two games and second game in a row with a goal off a penalty kick. Charleston Southern would net two more before the final whistle, with a final of 5-1.
Throughout the match,
Lea Alexander created several good runs down the left sidelines opening several opportunities that the Hatters were able to get on goal however the Buccaneers goalie was able to make the saves. The Hatters were able to total 17 shots with 10 being on goal and generate three corner kicks.
The Hatters will travel to Gainesville for a showdown with the Gators on Saturday. Kick off will be at 6:00pm.
