The Hatters fell to the Owls 70-88 on Wednesday night with the team struggling to score on all three levels.
The first half was a half of runs after battling in the first few minutes. After an Owls three, Blackmon answered with a fadeaway jumper.
Josh Smith tied it at five on the next position hitting from beyond the arc. Blackmon and Oglesby hit back-to-back threes to tie the game back up at 11. A 6-0 run for Kennesaw State created a small gap, with a Blackmon 3 breaking it making it 14-17. After the Owls stretched out their lead again Oglesby tied the game up at 24 on a shot from three-point land, capping off an 8-0 run. The Hatters went into halftime trailing 35-44.
Coming out of halftime it seemed as though Stetson would be able to close the gap but every time they tried to cut into the lead, the Owls found an open man for three. Kennesaw State was able to increase their lead as the game became more and more physical. While at the line Blackmon received a technical which matched with an Owls player as they went back and forth. Stetson eventually fell 70-88.
Blackmon led the team in scoring with 27 points. The only other Hatter in double figures was
Josh Smith with 10. Stetson shot 34.8% from the field, 27.6% from three and 72.7% from the line. Stetson struggled on the rebounding end but were able to force more turnovers than Kennesaw State. The depth of the Owls was another key factor in the game as they tripled the Hatters bench in points.
Stetson will have to reset for their game against Queens on Friday, January 12 at 7pm. Queens this past weekend lost to Kennesaw State 77-80.
