Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hatters Fall To Chicago State

The Hatters fell to Chicago State Monday night 77-70.

Stetson started out the first half on a hot 10-2 run with four points from Aubin Gateretse and three from Alec Oglesby and Jalen Blackmon. A dunk from Gateretse and a three form Oglesby pushed the Hatters early lead to 11. Stetson's lead started to slowly decrease throughout the first half. The Hatters found themselves trailing but tied the game back up at 33 on an Oglesby three. Oglesby once again tied the game at 35 on a jumper but the Hatters went into halftime trailing 38-44.

The Hatters came out of halftime and had at least one bucket from four different players to tie the game back up at 49. Swenson scored the next five points for the Hatters giving them a 54-51 lead. After the Cougars retook the lead a layup from Josh Smith gave the Hatters a one-point lead back. Stetson soon fell behind by 5 and the team was unable to overcome the deficit falling 70-77.

Swenson was the lead scorer for the Hatters totaling 21 while picking up 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Oglesby added 17 points for the Hatters while going 6-10 from the field and 5-8 form three. Gateretse finished with 10 rebounds, 8 of which were offensive, while falling just short of a double-double with 9 points.

The Hatters outshot the Cougars, hitting on 50% of their shots from the field and 47.6% from beyond the arc. However, Stetson allowed 16 offensive rebounds which turned into 17 second chance points. They also sent Chicago State to the line 30 times. The turnover battle was another negative for the Hatters. They will look to clean up these areas heading into their next game.

The Hatters will head down to Fort Myers to take on Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off will be at 7pm.
