DeLAND, Fla. - Stetson University's baseball program proudly announces its participation in the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge, set to take place from February 13-16, 2025, in Ponce and Mayagüez. The tournament, hosted by JoGi Sports and MB Sports and presented by Discover Puerto Rico, will bring together eight Division I collegiate baseball teams for a historic event.
In an exciting opportunity for Stetson University, the Hatters will join an esteemed lineup of teams, including the University of Connecticut, University of Michigan, University of Missouri, Penn State University, Rice University, Villanova University, and University of Virginia. The Puerto Rico Challenge is designed not only to highlight the excellence of college baseball but also to promote cultural exchange, community engagement, and youth development.
"Stetson baseball is honored to participate in the Puerto Rico Challenge, which holds some of the best Div. 1 college baseball teams in the country," said Stetson Head Coach
Steve Trimper. "Puerto Rico has passionate baseball fans, and being able to bring college baseball to the island is a win."
Stetson University's baseball team will take the field at two state-of-the-art stadiums – Francisco "Paquito" Montaner Stadium in Ponce and Isidoro García Stadium in Mayagüez. These venues, annually approved and inspected by the MLB Commissioner's Office, will set the stage for thrilling competition and the chance to experience new customs.
As part of the Puerto Rico Challenge's commitment to community outreach, Stetson University players and coaches will actively participate in free baseball clinics for grammar school-aged children, contributing to the advancement of young talent on the island.
"It's a win for both our players and the citizens of Puerto Rico," said the Hatters' Skipper. "The experience our team will gain by playing in such a prestigious tournament is outstanding."
