Clarksville, TN – Stetson Women's Soccer fell to Austin Peay 2-1, Thursday night.
Stella Comana scored the goal for the Hatters, her fourth of the season.
The Governors held a good amount of possession in the first half, but the Hatters tallied more shots. Stetson registered six shots in the first half with the first one pinging off the crossbar on a shot from
Payton Quinones. After it hit the crossbar, it landed back in the box and
Avery Wise put it on goal, but it was turned away.
Austin Peay tallied their goal off a corner kick in the thirty second minute before Comana answered four minutes later to tie the game at one. It was a ball that got deflected behind the keeper by
Georgia Place and Comana slid into the ball pushing it over the line making sure it wouldn't be saved.
Ashleigh Wise made a big save on the Governors next corner kick to keep the match knotted going into halftime.
Austin Peay scored their second goal on a penalty kick in the fifty sixth minute. As the minutes ticked off the clock the Hatters began taking more shots.
Lea Alexander attempted to bend a shot in with her left foot but just missed the upper left corner of the net.
Avery Wise then took a shot from outside the box and hit the top of the cross bar. The best chance for Stetson to tie the match though came on a late corner kick. Place was able to get the ball on her foot, but it glanced off the post and the keeper jumped on it. The Hatters fell 2-1.
Wise tallied six saves in the game which leaves her one short of 200 career saves. Place's assist was her first of the season and now gives her three points on the season. Comana comes out of this match now at 11 points with four goals and three assists.
Up next for Stetson is a Sunday showdown with Lipscomb on October 13. That match will kick off at 2pm.
