INDIANAPOLIS – The Stetson Hatters fell to the Butler Bulldogs 46-13 on Saturday afternoon in Indy. Despite scoring twice in the second half, Stetson couldn't overcome the deficit, dropping to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Quarterback Brady Meitz led the Hatters' passing attack, throwing for 210 yards and one touchdown, but also threw two interceptions. Meitz completed 27 of 40 passes, achieving a 67.5% completion rate.
On the ground, Donovan Snyder paced the offense with 57 rushing yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Anthony Benzija contributed 28 rushing yards, averaging 14 yards per carry. Junior wide receiver Dalton Bailey hauled in 10 receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown leading all Stetson receivers.
Stetson converted 7 of 14 third-down attempts, a 50% success rate, while Butler converted 6 of 10. On defense, the Hatters had two players with more than eight tackles in the ballgame led by Shug Bentley, who had 10. Kyle Elphick recorded seven tackles in the loss while Henry Watkins recovered a fumble. Stetson's defense limited Butler to 188 passing yards but couldn't contain the Bulldogs' offensive surge.
After Butler jumped out to a 32-0 lead, Stetson got on the board late in the third quarter with a touchdown from Bailey at the 4:37 mark. Butler extended its lead to 46-7 before Snyder scored his first touchdown of the season, cutting the deficit to 46-13.
The Hatters will return to DeLand next Saturday, November 9, to host the Marist Red Foxes at 1:00 PM.
