Daytona Beach, Fla. – Stetson Men's Basketball fell to Toledo in the First Round of the Boardwalk Battle and will now take on East Carolina in the consolation bracket.
The Hatters started off the game with a steal from
Jordan Wood who ended up making the shot from beyond the arc to give Stetson a 3-0 lead. The Rockets managed to take the lead away, but
Tristan Gross splashed one home from three to put the Hatters up 6-5. The rest of the half didn't go the Hatters way as they fell behind the Rockets by 20. They were able to cut the deficit to 51-35 at the half.
Stetson couldn't capture much momentum in the second half as the deficit increased. In the last three minutes though, the Hatters went on 9-0 run with
Abramo Canka scoring four and Gross adding five of his own. The run came too late for Stetson as they fell 103-78.
Josh Massey led the team in scoring with 16 points, going 4-7 from the field which included 2-3 from three. He also hit all six of his free throws.
Mehki Ellison, Canka, Phillips Jr. and Thompson rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Hatters. Canka was the team leader in rebounds with eight and assists with six. As a team, Stetson shot 47.4% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
The Hatters will have a quick turnaround as they will face off against East Carolina on Friday, November 21. The game will tip off at 1:00pm in the Ocean Center.
