DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Stetson (1-6) men's basketball team fell to the La Salle Explorers (5-2) 92-77 in the Boardwalk Battle at the Ocean Center Saturday afternoon in Daytona.
After falling behind 27-21, Stetson went on a 7-0 run with 8:43 left in the first half. The run ended with a bucket from Jamie Phillips Jr., to take a 28-27 lead. The Hatters went back and forth with the Explorers, ultimately resulting in a Hatter lead 41-40 as they entered the halftime break. Stetson knocked down six three pointers in the first, while shooting 15-33 overall for a 45% shooting percentage.
In the second half, La Salle went on a run to take the lead 74-58 before Stetson went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 74-64 with 6:03 to go in the contest. Despite recording 20 of its 36 points in the paint for the second half the Hatters could not complete the comeback as they fell 92-77.
Stetson had three players in double figures, led by Mehki Ellison, who had 20 points and seven rebounds. Abramo Canka added 14 points and Jamie Phillips Jr. helped out with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Hatters shot 16-18, 89% from the line, going a perfect 11-11 in the second half.
The Hatters will enjoy some time off for the Holiday break before getting back on the court as they take on USF in Tampa on December 3rd at 7:00PM.
