Darley ready to Compete at ITA Conference Masters Championships

Darley will face Julia Haynes from UC San Diego

DELAND, FL - Stetson tennis student-athlete Cheri Darley has been selected to represent the ASUN Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championship, which starts tomorrow in Rome, Georgia. 

In the round of 32 Darley is to set to take on Julia Haynes from UC San Diego. Haynes is in her first year at UC San Diego as a graduate student. Prior to UC San Diego Haynes was at Columbia where she served as team captain in 2023-24 and compiled a 14-7 singles record.

Cheri Darley is in her senior year as a Hatter and is looking to add even more to a standout career. Earlier this fall Darley earned one of Stetson's first ever victories at the ITA All-American Championship. Darley achieved First Team All-ASUN in 2024 going 12-7 in singles play, 6-2 in conference, in a season that ended in a conference championship for the Hatters. Darley was also a 2x player of the week in 2024. In her sophomore season Darley earned Third Team All-ASUN, as a freshmen received Second Team All-ASUN, All-Freshmen ASUN, and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team as the Hatters won the ASUN title.   

"Cheri deserved this opportunity to represent the ASUN. She has had a very successful record in the conference during her time here. I look forward to her competing in Rome," Stetson women's head coach Travis Sandlant.

Each NCAA AQ-eligible, Division I conference designated one singles player and one doubles team from each gender to participate. Darley received the nod for the ASUN women's singles player. 

About the ITA Conference Masters Championships:

The ITA Conference Masters Championships will take place from November 7-10, 2024 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.

The 2024 ITA Conference Masters Championship will have a draw size of the following, (Singles: 32) (Doubles: 32). From this, four players (4) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists). Meanwhile, three doubles teams (3) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Conference Masters (champion, finalist, third place). Each NCAA AQ-eligible, Division I conference will designate one singles player and one doubles team from each gender to participate in the event. Those players can be designated through the use of a conference tournament to be completed no later than October 27, 2024., or through an alternate selection process determined by the conference office and its members.
