Swenson Scores Career High 29 Points and Reaches 1000 Career Points in Loss to Queens

Stephan Swenson reaches the 1000 points milestone scoring a career high 29, Thursday night, as the Hatters fall to Queens 83-75.
 
The Royals opened the scoring and took a 5-2 lead. The Hatters tied the game up at seven with a three from Jalen Blackmon. Queens built up a six-point lead, but Swenson would make a layup and Blackmon hit two free throws to cut the deficit down to two. Another Swenson layup tied the game back up at 17. Stetson took its first lead of the game on a Cyncier Harrison layup that made It 19-17. The game was tied up at 19 and then 21. The Royals went back up by five, but Blackmon scored five straight points to tie the game back up at 26. The team traded baskets tying the game back up at 30. Queens went on a run and Stetson went into halftime trailing 41-49. 
 
Swenson logged the first bucket of the second half. Down 13, Tristan Gross scored a layup and Alec Oglesby splashed a three on the next Hatters' possession making it 48-52. The Royals went back up by eight but layups from Aubin Gateretse and Swenson brought the gap back down to four. Queens increased their lead back up to ten. Swenson made another layup and Oglesby hit a three to make it a five-point game. The two teams traded buckets and Oglesby was able to bring the Hatters to within three on his third three pointer of the night. Queens wouldn't let the Stetson get any close as they pulled back ahead by seven. The next possession Swenson scored on a driving layup making it 73-78. That gave him 29 points for the game, and he eclipsed the 1000-point milestone. Stetson wouldn't be able to get any closer falling 75-83. 
 
Swenson was the leading scorer of the game with a career high 29 points and led the Hatters in assists with four. Gateretse secured a game high 10 rebounds. Stetson shot 49.3% from the field, 25% from three and 55.6% from the free throw line.
 
The Hatters will host Kennesaw State on Saturday, Feb. 24 for Senior Night. Stetson's final home game of the regular season will tip off at 2pm.
