FOSTER, HOBBS LEAD HATTERS TO WALK-OFF BEFORE RAIN POSTPONES STETSON INVITATIONAL

Day's Final Game Postponed in the Fourth Inning

DeLand, Fla. -  The Stetson Invitational got off to an explosive start for the Stetson Hatters on Friday before coming to a watery end. The Hatters opened their first game with a leadoff home run and ended it with a walk-off single, before the day's second game was postponed due to rain in the fourth inning.

After starter Lauren Hobbs needed just seven pitches to set Long Island (5-7) down in order in the top of the first, shortstop Addison Foster got the Hatters (3-8) going in in the bottom of the frame. After laying down a bunt just foul on the first pitch, the Stetson freshman turned on the 0-1 offerening, launching her first career home run well over the fence in right-center field to give Stetson a 1-0 lead.

LIU used a pair of leadoff hits and a sacrifice fly to even the score at 1-1 in the fourth, and the Sharks would eventually scratch out another run in the seventh to stake themselves to a 2-1 lead. Stetson would not be deterred, putting together their most complete inning of the afternoon with their backs against the wall. Pinch hitter Haley Fox reached on a one-out errror before fellow pinch hitter Briana Robinson worked a walk to put the winning runner on base. A sharp lineout off the bat of pinch hitter Michelle DiPuma knocked the Hatters down to their last out, but Foster wore a 1-2 offering to load the bases. A high chopper to the pitcher off the bat of right fielder Madelyn Synoracki scored Foster to even things up at 2-2, before centerfielder Kami Eppley legged out an infield single of her own to plate Robinson and give Stetson the walkoff 3-2 win.

Hobbs (1-2) picked up her first win of the young season, holding the Sharks to two runs on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Synoracki was the only Hatter with multiple hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Foster reached base three times thanks to a home run, walk, and HBP.

The start to the day's second game was a slower affair, with the Hatters and Maryland (4-7) combining for a single hit through the first three innings. With Stetson warming up for the top of the fourth, the rain started, and after 20 minutes the game was postponed.
