Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson University women's basketball team dropped their final road game of the 2024 regular season against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Alico Arena in Fort Myers on Saturday, Feb. 24. The loss put an end to a four game win streak as well as the Hatters' undefeated road conference streak. The Hatters ended the opening quarter with a 17-14 lead before being outscored 54-34 over the next three quarters.
Jamiya Turner recorded a season-high 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field including a three-pointer. The redshirt-senior guard also snatched a team-high nine rebounds in the loss. It was Turner's third game this season with 20+ points and her 18th with double-figures. Saturday's loss also marked a season-high in made field goals for Turner.
Also reaching double-digit points in the defeat was
Khamya McNeal, who provided 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting. The redshirt-junior went 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, a season-high, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out an assist.
As a team, Stetson shot 20-of-51 (39.2%) from the floor and 6-of-13 (46.2%) from beyond the arc. While the Hatters were outrebounded 36-30, they outscored the Eagles in the paint 26-24. While Turner led the team in boards,
Jaelyn Talley pulled in six rebounds, four of which were on offense.
The defense held FGCU to 9-of-24 shooting in the first half and 22-of-52 throughout the game. Stetson forced ten turnovers while converting four points on the opposite end.
Stetson, now 15-13, will return home for the final two games of the regular season and will begin by hosting the Jacksonville Dolphins at the historic Edmunds Center at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Feb. 29.
