Blackmon Scores Career High and Swenson Becomes All-Time Assist Leader In Win Over Jacksonville

The Stetson Hatters' Men's Basketball team won 86-73 against Jacksonville on Wednesday night. Stephan Swenson became the all-time assist leader for Stetson passing Angel Rivera who had 582. Jalen Blackmon also hit a career high thirty-six points tonight. 
 
Stetson opened the game with back-to-back threes from Swenson and Blackmon. The teams traded baskets and the Dolphins pulled to within one. With the score 12-11, the Hatters went on an 8-2 run. Alec Oglesby and Blackmon both hit threes during the run with Tristan Gross also adding a bucket. Stetson continued pushing on offense increasing their lead to ten. Jacksonville cut the Hatters' lead down to five, but Swenson drained a shot from beyond the arc to start an 11-0 run. Swenson tallied his fifth assist of the game on a Blackmon three making him the all-time assist leader in Stetson history. Blackmon found Aubin Gateretse in the paint, and he slammed it down just before half. The Hatters went into halftime leading 43-30.
 
Gateretse slammed one home to open the scoring in the second half and Oglesby followed that up with a three on the next possession to make it 48-30. Blackmon then scored the next eight points for Stetson. The Hatters continued to push to increase their lead and took a 20-point lead on a Blackmon jumper. Stetson continued pushing to keep their lead intact. The Dolphins brought the Hatters' lead down to thirteen, but it wouldn't get any lower as Stetson won 84-71. 
 
Blackmon scored 36 points, shooting 62.5% from the field, 50% from three and 90.0 percent from the free throw line. Oglesby was the second highest scorer on the team with 18 points. He went 6-7 from the field and 4-5 from beyond the arc while adding four rebounds and three assists. Swenson rounded out the Hatters who recorded double-digit points with 16. He also picked up four rebounds and eight assists while shooting 60% from the field and 50% from three. 
 
The Hatters picked up their 11th conference win of the season on a night where they shot 55.8% from the field, 48.1% from three and 88.2% from the free throw line.
 
Stetson will take on North Florida on Friday, March 1st for the regular season finale. The game will begin at 7pm will the Hatters hoping to lock up one of the top 2 seeds for the ASUN Championship.
