Paret's 9-strikeout showing leads Stetson over Bradley 7-3

Dessureault Goes Yard for Second Straight Game

DELAND, Fla. --Senior Daniel Paret dominated on Sunday, fanning nine Bradley hitters over five innings of work to help lead the Stetson Hatters past the Braves 7-3.

In addition to his nine strikeouts, Paret (3-0) tossed five shutout innings while giving up two hits and walking three for Stetson (12-5). Freshman Zane Coppersmith also made an impact on the mound for the Hatters, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Offensively, the Hatters were paced by freshman Nelphie Lopez, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Junior Yohann Dessureault put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Junior Gio Cueto also helped out for Stetson, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hatters got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Kyle Jones' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Stetson.

The Hatters then held the Braves scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Stetson scored twice on Lopez's two-run homer, which brought the Hatters lead to 4-0.

Bradley narrowed Stetson's lead to 4-1 before the Hatters stretched the advantage to 5-1 in the sixth inning. The Hatters notched a run on Cueto's two-out RBI double.

The Braves fought back, closing the gap to 5-2 until Stetson added some insurance in the seventh. The Hatters scored twice on Dessureault's two-run homer, bringing the Stetson advantage to 7-2. Bradley put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Hatters still coasted to the 7-3 win.
