Stetson Softball Splits As Freeman Tallies Five RBIs

Stetson Softball split their first two conference games of the season against Kennesaw State, Saturday evening. The Hatters took the first game 1-0 scoring the winning run in the top of the ninth inning before dropping game two 10-7.

In the first game against the Owls, Hannah Marien was in the circle for the Hatters. She went the full nine innings, giving up six hits while striking out eight. She was also able to work out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth to keep the game scoreless. In the top of the ninth Lath Freeman roped a double with two outs. Evette Morgan followed her with a double on her own and driving in the winning run. That one run was all the Hatters needed to seal the game.

Stetson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in game two of the double header. Freeman hit a single to the right side but a throwing error on the Owls brought Addison Foster in to score. Lauren Hobbs got the start for Stetson but left the game in the first after giving up four runs. The Owls made it 5-1 by the end of the second. The top of the third brought Freeman up to the plate with bases loaded and she was able to single in a run to make it 5-2. Morgan was next and hit a two RBI sac fly deep down the right field line putting the Hatters down one. In the top of the fourth Freeman tallied her third RBI of the game on a sac fly to tie the game up at five. Kennesaw State answered back in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run making it 6-5. Stetson decided to create a little chaos in the top of the sixth. With runners on first and third Addison Foster stole second. The throw from the catcher was offline allowing a run to score. Freeman once again came through with her fourth RBI of the game to put the Hatters up 7-6. The Owls scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth stealing the win away from Stetson.

Stetson and Kennesaw State will face off for the rubber match Sunday, March 17 at 1pm.
