Labrador Notches 2 Extra Base Hits in 8-3 Loss to FGCU

DELAND, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters got a boost from junior Daniel Labrador, who notched two extra base hits in a 8-3 loss to the FGCU Eagles Sunday. The Hatters dropped the overall series with the Eagles, their first series loss since dropping two of three to Jacksonville.

Senior Daniel Paret got the start on the bump but took the loss for Stetson, who is now 24-12 and 10-5 in conference play. The senior southpaw struck out six batters as he now falls to 4-2 on the season. Sophomore Brendan Walker was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 3.1 innings, surrendering one run on two hits. As a staff, they faced 43 batters in the game, forcing five ground balls and 14 fly balls while striking out nine.

Labrador's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run, a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Isaiah Barkett furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs. Freshman Kyle Jones also helped out for the Hatters, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate. The latter of the three has now reached base in 23 straight games for the Hatters.

The Hatters were trailing 6-0 in the eighth inning when they first put runs on the board, thanks to a leadoff home run off the scoreboard in left by Labrador, his fourth of the season. Stetson scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Barkett. The Hatters were unable to get any closer, as FGCU added two runs to their tally on the way to an 8-3 final.

Stetson will now depart from DeLand for an extended road trip that will keep them away until May 3. The road trip begins close to home, however, as they head to Daytona Beach for a Volusia County match-up with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. First pitch is schedule for 6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 16 with the action being streamed to The CatEye Network on YouTube.
