Paret Powers Stetson over North Alabama 4-1

Strikes Out Eight as Stetson Takes the Series

FLORENCE, Ala. - Senior southpaw Daniel Paret was mowing batters down on Sunday, fanning eight North Alabama hitters over five innings of work to help lead the Stetson Hatters past the Lions 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to his eight strikeouts, Paret, now 5-2 on the season, tossed five shutout innings while giving up three hits and walking five for Stetson, who is now 26-14 on the campaign and 12-6 in conference play. Senior Cole Stallings also made an impact on the mound for the Hatters, throwing three innings, giving up one run on two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, the Hatters were led by junior Yohann Dessureault, who went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Junior catcher Gio Cueto drove in a run as well, going 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Landon Moran also pitched in for Stetson, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.

The Hatters put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Stetson scored twice as freshman Logan Hughes crossed on a balk before Dessureault extended the lead with an RBI single.

The Hatters then held the Lions scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Stetson scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Cueto, which brought the Hatters lead to 3-0.

Stetson held North Alabama scoreless before building their lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning. The Hatters scored once on an RBI single back up the middle by sophomore Lorenzo Meola. North Alabama put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Stetson held on for the 4-1 win.

The Hatters had control of the rest of the game after jumping ahead of the Lions 2-0 in the top of the second. The Hatters out-hit the Lions at a 10-6 clip while going 4-for-8 (.500) with runners in scoring position.

Stetson's pitching staff held North Alabama to 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. They faced 40 North Alabama batters in the game, forcing seven ground balls and five fly balls while striking out 12.

Stetson stays on the road as they return to action on Tuesday against the Florida Gators. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM at Condron Family Ballpark in Gainesville, Fla.
