Women's Tennis Claims Second ASUN Championship In Three Years

FORT MYERS, FLA. - Stetson Women's Tennis claimed the ASUN Championship with a 4-1 victory over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles Sunday afternoon. After the Hatters won the doubles point, Nadejda Maslova once again clinched the match in three sets on court two as women's tennis celebrated their second ASUN Championship in three years. Alanna DiFrancesco and Nadejda Maslova both earned All-Tournament Honors with Maslova being the tournament MVP.
Doubles:
Nadejda Maslova/Magdalena Hedrzak vs Ida Ferding/Fanny Norin 4-5 unfinished
Cheri Darley/Alanna DiFrancesco def. Paloma Goldsmith/Isabella Colmenares 6-4
Noa Cohen/Zali Morris def. Jordana Ossa/Lola Glantz 6-1
Order of finish:3, 2

"At the beginning of the season we had some players out because of injury" said Head Coach Travis Sandlant. "We had to switch up our double's lineup because of it. We got everyone healthy before conference started and make the pairs that we wanted. There were times I thought we might need to switch but I put my trust in the group we have, and that doubles record was pretty good this year. We know if we get that doubles point it's tough for the other team to take four singles from us."

Singles:
Cheri Darley vs Fanny Norin 6-2, 3-6, 3-1 unfinished
Nadejda Maslova def. Isabella Colmenares 2-6, 6-3, 6-3
Alanna DiFrancesco def. Paloma Goldsmith 6-2, 6-2
Zali Morris vs Jordana Ossa 6-4, 1-6, 2-2 unfinished
Noa Cohen def. Ida Ferding 6-2, 6-3
Amelia Kopel def. Magdalena Hedrzak 6-4, 6-0

Quote from Coach
"It's been a great experience. This year it has been a team effort. No one is relying on another person; you just have to look at the results from this tournament. Some of our team lost to a player in the regular season but then stepped up and got the job done in the tournament. Nadejda did a phenomenal job clinching yesterday and today and it reminded me of Noa clinching the semis and finals last year. This is a great group of girls and I'm honored to coach these types of players and student athletes that do this university proud.

"It's big to win two out of the last three championships. When you have a team that can take advantage of those opportunities and take two of the last three with this group and two players graduating this year it takes a big effort. For us to climb our way up the rankings and be at the top of the conference it is a big effort. It not only starts with the girls but everyone behind the scenes that does things to make our program nationally recognized. Big team effort by everyone at Stetson and glad to be a part of the University."

The NCAA Selection Show will take place on Monday, April 29 at 6pm where the Hatters will find out who they will go up against in the NCAA Tournament.
