Stetson Rallies From Late Deficit to Defeat North Florida 6-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Stetson Hatters rallied from down 2-1 in the seventh inning to knock off the North Florida Ospreys 6-3 at Harmon Stadium on Friday night. Dessureault racked up four hits in the night as he is one of five Hatters with a four hit performance this season. The top three batters in the order all tallied a pair of hits including freshman Kyle Jones who extended his on-base streak to 29 straight games after drawing a walk to leadoff the game.

Sophomore TJ Melani, now 3-0, earned the win out of the bullpen for Stetson as they are now 27-15, 13-6. The right-hander tossed two shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out one. Senior Anthony DeFabbia started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on two hits, walking four and striking out four. Zane Coppersmith and Cole Stallings also made appearances, the former striking out a pair while Stallings picked up his sixth save of the season. Stetson's pitching staff limited North Florida to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position while facing 38 Ospreys batters in the game, forcing five ground balls and 14 fly balls while striking out seven.

Offensively, the Hatters were led by sophomore Isaiah Barkett, who went 2-for-3 on the day with three walks and two RBIs, including the RBI knock to tie the game at 2 apiece. Junior Yohann Dessureault compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 4-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Junior Gio Cueto also contributed for Stetson, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBIs, which put the Hatters ahead in the game. The Hatters out-hit the Ospreys at a 15-5 clip as five Hatters had multiple hits in the ballgame

Trailing 2-0, the Hatters first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Senior Mike Handal came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stetson and get them on the board after leading off with a single through the right side.

The Hatters kept the deficit at 2-1 before taking the lead in the eighth. Stetson scored three runs in the frame, capped off by a two-run single off the bat of Cueto, which brought the Hatters lead to 4-2.

Stetson held North Florida scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Hatters scored twice, with one run coming across on Barkett's single. North Florida put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Stetson held on for the 6-3 win.

Stetson returns to action tomorrow at Harmon Stadium as the Hatters take on the Ospreys of North Florida for game two of the weekend series at 3:00 PM with all the action streamed on ESPN+.
